Red Bank 24s Current News

Corey Patterson, LF

2012-01-30

Brewers sign veteran Patterson: MLB.com reports the Brewers signed OF Corey Patterson to a minor-league deal on Monday, which includes an invite to spring training. (Updated 01/30/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Patterson split the 2011 season between Toronto and St. Louis. He played in 133 games, but he is no longer an everyday outfielder. If he somehow makes the Brewers roster, then it will be as a reserve. Ignore him in Fantasy. (Updated 01/30/2012).

Peter Bourjos, CF

2012-01-29

Bourjos to manage hip pain: The Sports Xchange reports Angels OF Peter Bourjos was planning to play winter ball again this offseason but a chronic hip/groin injury flared up and he has instead spent the winter rehabbing that injury. Bourjos said the hip issue has bothered him "on and off" for a few seasons now and has been diagnosed as a bone bruise with some fraying in the labrum. Surgery to address the problem might be considered following the 2012 season, Bourjos said, but he thinks it will be manageable this season. (Updated 01/29/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Bourjos wants to play through the pain so he doesn't become an afterthought in Los Angeles. Although, he might be forced into a role as a fourth outfielder if prospect Mike Trout proves too good to sit or keep in the minors, but as of now Bourjos is expected to start in center. Bourjos did hit .271 in 147 games last season and is a solid defender. But this hip injury is a bit concerning if it's going to linger. Consider Bourjos more of a mid-round Fantasy option on Draft Day. He has more value in Rotisserie formats. (Updated 01/29/2012).

Wilin Rosario, C

2012-01-29

Rosario learns from Pena: The Sports Xchange reports Rockies C Wilin Rosario, who turns 23 on Feb. 23, spent a couple days in the Dominican Republic working with former catcher and Yankees bench coach Tony Pena. Rosario, who showed his arm strength and ability to hit a fastball during a September call-up as well as his need for improvement hitting breaking pitches and his work behind the plate, said of Pena, "He helped me with my target and where to set up my glove. I always like talking to people who have played the game for a long time. You can learn and get better." (Updated 01/29/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Rosario has never played at Triple-A, having been promoted from Double-A Tulsa to the Rockies in September. He could very well begin the 2012 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs. In spring training, the Rockies will weigh what is best for Rosario's development and whether he is ready to catch two or three days a week behind veteran Ramon Hernandez, whom the Rockies acquired this offseason. Rosario hit three homers in 16 games last season and continues to show great pop for a catcher. If he does make the team out of camp, then consider him an NL-only Fantasy option in seasonal formats on Draft Day. He still is a solid long-term keeper. (Updated 01/29/2012).

Julio Borbon, CF

2012-01-24

Borbon playing winter ball again: The Dallas Morning News reports Rangers OF Julio Borbon, who tweeted Sunday that he injured his ankle playing winter ball, was back in the lineup Monday for Escogido (Dominican Republic). Borbon was expected to play through the injury following treatment. (Updated 01/24/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Borbon didn't specify which ankle he hurt, but it's intriguing because he damaged ligaments in his left ankle last summer and underwent season-ending surgery. If it's the same ankle this time, then there could be concern. But it seems to be very minor, so no need to panic. Borbon has been the Rangers' opening day center fielder the last two seasons, but he will have to compete for that right this spring. Borbon's offensive woes cost him his everyday job in 2011 and now he has to prove himself again. Even if Borbon wins a starting job with Texas, he will open the year as primarily an AL-only Fantasy option. (Updated 01/24/2012).

Andre Ethier, RF

2012-01-17

Ethier, Dodgers come to terms: The Dodgers agreed to a one-year, $10.95 million deal with Andre Ethier on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration with the outfielder. The 29-year-old is coming off a down season in which he hit only 11 homers after averaging 24.7 over the previous three. (Updated 01/17/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Ethier had surgery to clean out an area behind his kneecap in September. He was playing with loose skin underneath the kneecap for much of the season -- an injury that forced him to miss almost all of the season's final month. You have to think the injury had some impact on his performance, especially since his power numbers were so much lower than usual. Ethier should be healthy in time for spring training. With a bounce-back season a distinct possibility, he's worth drafting among the top 30 outfielders. (Updated 01/17/2012).

Mike Adams, R

2012-01-17

Adams gets $4.4 million from Texas: Rangers RP Mike Adams, who is recovering from early January hernia surgery, agreed to a one-year, $4.4 million contract on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration. (Updated 01/17/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Adams had successful surgery and still hopes to be ready for the start of spring training. But it does appear he will be ready for the start of the season, which is what counts. Adams will be a setup man for closer Joe Nathan. Adams might get some save chances, but he is mostly a Fantasy option in leagues that use true middle men. He is one of the better non-closers in the majors. (Updated 01/17/2012).

David Price, S

2012-01-17

Price, Rays strike deal: Rays SP David Price agreed to a one-year, $4.35 million contract on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration. (Updated 01/17/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Price took a step back in 2011 after finishing second in the AL Cy Young race in 2010. He went just 12-13 with a 3.49 ERA last season. However, Price was very good down the stretch. He went 3-3 with a 2.51 ERA and .203 opponents' batting average in his final 10 regular-season starts. The Rays should be in contention again in 2012, so consider Price a top 10 Fantasy SP on Draft Day. (Updated 01/17/2012).

Seth Smith, LF

2012-01-16

Smith headed to Oakland: The Oakland Athletics continued revamping their roster Monday, acquiring OF Seth Smith from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for SPs Josh Outman and Guillermo Moscoso, according to CBSSports.com. Smith, who had been involved in trade rumors throughout the offseason, has served mostly as a fourth outfielder for the Rockies since 2008. He finished with a career-high 533 plate appearances last year and batted .284. (Updated 01/16/2012)

Fantasy Analysis So much for Smith remaining with Colorado. A day after avoiding arbitration with a one-year deal, Smith was shipped to the American League. Smith's career splits indicate he was largely aided by Coors Field as he hit .296 at home and just .257 on the road. He will likely start in left field for the Athletics with Coco Crisp in center and Josh Reddick in right. Fantasy owners should consider Smith a late-round option in 2012 drafts. (Updated 01/16/2012).

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C

2012-01-15

Saltalamacchia avoids arbitration: Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and the Boston Red Sox reached agreement on a one-year contract. The Red Sox announced the deal Sunday and avoided salary arbitration. Saltalamacchia, 26, set career highs with 16 home runs and 56 RBI last year while hitting .235. (Updated 01/15/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Saltalamacchia also threw out 28 potential stealers, the most by a Red Sox catcher since Jason Varitek’s 29 in 2002, as he overcame defensive miscues early in his career. Saltalamacchia has immense power potential and will likely compete for the majority of at-bats with Ryan Lavarnway and Kelly Shoppach, but he is expected to emerge as the starter. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy C option during 2012 drafts. (Updated 01/15/2012).

Javier Vazquez, S

2012-01-05

Marlins don't expect Vazquez back: According to ESPN.com, the Marlins wouldn't have made the trade for SP Carlos Zambrano on Thursday if they weren't 100 percent convinced Javier Vazquez was retiring. Vazquez was 50-50 on retiring at the end of the 2011 season, but reports since then have suggested he was leaning toward it. His official decision is supposed to come at some point in January. (Updated 01/05/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Vazquez's retirement would be unfortunate for Fantasy owners because the 35-year-old clearly regained his form over the final two-thirds of 2011, posting a 2.70 ERA and 8.3 strikeouts per nine innings over his final 24 starts. If Vazquez returns, he would be worth drafting as a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy SP, but that's looking less and less likely at this point. (Updated 01/05/2012).

Carlos Zambrano, S

2012-01-05

Zambrano to Marlins a done deal: SP Carlos Zambrano agreed to waive his no-trade clause on Thursday, making his move to the Marlins official. The Marlins sent SP Chris Volstad to the Cubs in the deal. The Cubs will pay $15.5 million of the $18 million owed to Zambrano in 2012. (Updated 01/05/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Zambrano fell out of favor with the Cubs with his latest meltdown on Aug. 12 at Atlanta. After the game, he cleaned out his locker and claimed he was retiring -- a move that landed him on the restricted list. Now, he gets a fresh start in Miami for a manager in Ozzie Guillen who reportedly had a hand in this move. Of course, Zambrano doesn't have the stuff he once did, going 9-7 with a 4.82 ERA and 1.44 WHIP last year. He still has the potential to contribute in mixed leagues at age 30, but he's no certainty to get drafted in mixed leagues. (Updated 01/05/2012).

Fernando Rodney, R

2012-01-04

Rodney, Rays come to terms: The Rays officially announced the signing of Fernando Rodney on Wednesday to a one-year deal with a club option for 2013. Rodney will get paid $1.75 million in 2012 and has a team option for $2.5-million or a $250,000 buyout in 2013. Rodney went 3-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 39 appearances last season for the Angels, converting three saves in seven chances. (Updated 01/04/2012)

Fantasy Analysis Rodney has always struggled with command, but he was especially wild last season. Back woes may have contributed to his problems, but even if healthy, Rodney is still too risky to trust in most formats this year. He may pick up some holds, so he could be worth a shot in leagues that use middle men. (Updated 01/04/2012).

Eric Young, LF

2011-12-20

Mets have interest in Young: The Mets have been in discussions with the Rockies regarding a potential trade involving OF Eric Young. According to ESPN.com, the Rockies could be a fit, as they have interest in Mets 2B Justin Turner. Young hit .247 with 27 stolen bases for Colorado in 2011. (Updated 12/20/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Young has been blocked from a regular role with the Rockies for the last two seasons, even though he has little to prove at Triple-A at this point. Should Young get traded to the Mets, he could challenge Daniel Murphy for the job at second base or possibly see playing time filling in at the outfield positions. Any move that could increase Young's playing time would be a boon to owners in Rotisserie leagues, as Young has the potential to be a 40-plus steals producer. Stay tuned to see how this situation develops. (Updated 12/20/2011).

Jose Veras, R

2011-12-12

Veras traded to Milwaukee: The Brewers traded 3B Casey McGehee, who became unnecessary when the team signed Aramis Ramirez, to the Pirates on Monday, reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. McGehee was traded for RP Jose Veras. (Updated 12/12/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Veras went 2-4 for the Pirates last year at the age of 30. He had a 3.80 ERA over 79 appearances and 71 innings with one save. Veras is just a middle relief Fantasy option for leagues that care about them. (Updated 12/12/2011).

Brandon Phillips, 2B

2011-12-09

Reds make extension offer to Phillips: The Reds made a contract extension offer to 2B Brandon Phillips earlier this week, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Phillips, who had his $12 million option for 2012 picked up at the end of last season, has spent the past six seasons with the Reds. “I don’t know if they were completely happy ... they didn’t agree to it,” Cincinnati general manager Walt Jocketty told the newspaper. (Updated 12/09/2011)

Fantasy Analysis The deal to Phillips was lost in the shuffle of the MLB Winter Meetings as the Reds hope to lock up the star 30-year-old. Phillips posted a career-high .300 batting average last season as he showed no signs of slowing down in his ninth major league season. His power remained consistent as he clubbed 18 homers and 82 RBI. Phillips has also improved his on-base percentage every year since 2008. Fantasy owners should consider him a solid option in the first six rounds of most 2012 Fantasy drafts. (Updated 12/09/2011).

C.J. Wilson, S

2011-12-08

Wilson joining Pujols in Anaheim: The Angels reached an agreement to sign SP C.J. Wilson on Thursday morning. This was the Angels' second big splash of the day, as they also signed 1B Albert Pujols. According to an anonymous source, the deal is worth $77.5 million over five years. Wilson passed up a sixth year offered by the Marlins in order to join the Angels. New Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto called Wilson one of the "premier" pitchers in the game. The 31-year-old lefty was 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA with Texas last season, helping the Rangers reach their second straight World Series. (Updated 12/08/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Now the Angels have claimed the top free agent hitter and pitcher on this year's market. While Wilson gets to stay in the AL West, which features the weak-hitting A's and Mariners, he now heads to a much better home park for pitchers, as he leaves Texas behind. Wilson now becomes a solid No. 2 SP option in mixed leagues. (Updated 12/08/2011).

Sergio Santos, C

2011-12-06

White Sox ditch Santos: The White Sox traded closer Sergio Santos to the Blue Jays for minor league SP Nestor Molina on Tuesday. Santos had signed a three-year contract extension with Chicago back in September, and he is due to make $8.25 million through the 2014 season. He converted 30 of 36 save chances for the White Sox in 2011, posting a 3.55 ERA. (Updated 12/06/2011)

Fantasy Analysis The one-time minor league shortstop will now close games for the Blue Jays. Santos emerged as a reliable source of saves for Fantasy owners this past season, and that should not change with his move to the AL East. He is worth targeting as a No. 2 RP in mixed league formats. (Updated 12/06/2011).

Ian Desmond, SS

2011-11-29

Desmond to remain leadoff hitter?: Though one of the Nationals goals this offseason is to acquire a legitimate leadoff hitter, manager Davey Johnson is content keeping Ian Desmond in the role, according to MLB.com. Desmond hit .253 overall last season but .281 out of the leadoff spot. (Updated 11/29/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Unfortunately for Desmond, Johnson isn't in charge of personnel. The 26-year-old might be the organization's fallback option at the leadoff spot, but his poor walk rate makes him not such a great fit for the role. He reached base at only a .298 clip last year. His free-swinging ways also limit his batting average, so other than as a modest source of stolen bases, Desmond isn't such an attractive Fantasy option entering 2012. He's worth drafting as a late-round middle infielder, but nothing more. (Updated 11/29/2011).

Joe Nathan, C

2011-11-22

Nathan confident with move to Texas: RP Joe Nathan, who signed a two-year, $14.5 million deal with the Rangers on Monday, is confident he'll be an effective closer going forward, according to ESPN.com. He had a 4.84 ERA over 48 appearances in his first season back from Tommy John surgery but a 3.38 ERA over his final 31 of those appearances, recording 28 strikeouts compared to only five walks during that stretch. "It was huge for me," Nathan said. "It was big for my confidence." Though he lost a mile per hour or two on his fastball last season, he learned to rely on his curveball and other breaking pitches more. "I was able to command it a lot better on both sides of the plate," Nathan said. "I'm trying to use movement more and make other pitches better when my fastball isn't there." (Updated 11/22/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Nathan also incorporated a changeup into his arsenal last year and plans to use it more going forward. Clearly, he's having to reinvent himself a bit as a 37-year-old coming off major elbow surgery, but as he acknowledges, the recovery should come easier for him now that he's 18 months removed from the procedure. The Rangers clearly liked what they saw from Nathan late last year and are confident enough in him to move incumbent closer Neftali Feliz to the starting rotation. Though Nathan comes with some risks at his age, he's worth drafting as a No. 2 Fantasy RP as the closer of an expected contender. (Updated 11/22/2011).

Ryan Doumit, C

2011-11-18

Doumit joining Twins: Former Pittsburgh C Ryan Doumit signed a one-year deal with Minnesota on Friday, according to CBSSports.com senior writer Danny Knobler. Doumit battled injuries for most of the 2011 season and managed just 77 games. He finished with a .303 batting average -- his highest since the 2008 season -- with eight homers and 30 RBI. (Updated 11/18/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Doumit declined a team option to stay with the Pirates for the 2012 season and had received several offers from other teams. He is unlikely to play much behind the plate with Twins C Joe Mauer expected to be at full strength for the start of the season. But he has played other positions in his career, including the outfield. Fantasy owners should consider him a low-end option worthy of a selection in the deeper rounds of mixed formats. (Updated 11/18/2011).

Adam Moore, C

2011-10-31

Moore comes off the 60-day DL: Mariners C Adam Moore, who missed all but one week of the 2011 season after having surgery on his right knee in April, was removed from the 60-day DL on Monday. Moore has been working on regaining his timing at the plate in the Arizona Fall League. (Updated 10/31/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Moore put up good numbers in the minors and still has a shot of playing a significant role with the Mariners, but he's running out of time to make an impression at age 27. With Miguel Olivo around, Moore is unlikely to win a starting job this spring, so he should go undrafted outside of deeper AL-only leagues. (Updated 10/31/2011).

David Freese, 3B

2011-10-29

Freese awarded WS MVP: St. Louis 3B David Freese came through again for the Cardinals on Friday night in Game 7 of the World Series. He went 1 for 2 at the plate, driving in two runs and drew two walks. His two-run double set a new postseason RBI record at 21. The Cardinals went on to win the game, 6-2, clinching the World Series over the Rangers. (Updated 10/29/2011)

Fantasy Analysis One could say Freese went of in the playoffs as he had just 10 homers and 55 RBI in 333 regular season at-bats, while hitting .297. "It was just a matter of playing time, at-bats and experience," said hitting coach Mark McGwire. "When you have a swing like his, where he naturally can stay back and drive the ball with such power to right-center, you have a chance to be a very good hitter. He does that. It just takes time to learn." Fantasy owners should keep tabs on him during spring training next year to see how he looks. Even after his stellar postseason, Freese is still a late-round selection on Draft Day in 2012. If he stays healthy, he could emerge as a top-12 third baseman before season's end. (Updated 10/29/2011).

Jayson Werth, RF

2011-10-26

A position change for Werth?: MLB.com reports that Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo is considering moving Jayson Werth from right field to center field for next season. Rizzo said that he prefers to keep Werth at his current position, but that he is keeping a move to center field open as an option. In his first season with Washington, Werth slumped his way to a .232 batting average with 20 home runs and 19 stolen bases. (Updated 10/26/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Should Werth move to center field, it will probably have little to no impact on his Fantasy value, though it would open the door to using a young prospect -- most likely Chris Marrero -- in right field. Regardless of where he plays, Werth should be a fixture in the Nationals' outfield next year, and he is worth drafting in the middle rounds in standard mixed leagues. (Updated 10/26/2011).

Wil Myers, c

2011-10-13

Myers looks to rebound in AFL: Royals outfield prospect William Myers, who struggled to the tune of a .254 batting average in his first year at Double-A Arkansas in 2011, is off to a quick start in the Arizona Fall League, according to the Kansas City Star, batting .364 with a .462 on-base percentage and five extra-base hits in 26 plate appearances. "I finally feel good," he said. "I’m finally back to where I want to be. I’m feeling healthy, and I’m feeling better at the plate." Apparently, Myers' struggles in 2011 were partially by design. Minor-league hitting coordinator Jack Maloof was "adamant" about promoting Myers to Double-A simply because he had never experienced failure before. "We thought he needed to experience some," GM Dayton Moore said. (Updated 10/13/2011)

Fantasy Analysis A knee injury also likely had something to do with Myers' struggles. The 20-year-old slipped on concrete running from his car during a rain storm and slammed his knee into a column -- an injury that resulted in four staples, an infection and about a month of missed playing time. All things considered, you can understand why Myers struggled, and you can rest assured the Royals won't rush him beyond what they've already done. "He’ll probably go back to Double-A,” Moore said. “Hopefully, at the halfway point he’s doing enough to get him to Triple-A. He’s a special talent with the bat and athletically." Despite his poor showing in 2011, Myers remains a top prospect and an excellent selection in long-term keeper leagues. (Updated 10/13/2011).

Kenley Jansen, C

2011-09-29

Jansen stops bleeding in finale: Los Angeles RP Kenley Jansen was needed to get two outs in the ninth inning on Wednesday in the regular-season finale at Arizona. The Dodgers were winning 7-0 to begin the ninth inning, but Ramon Troncoso surrendered five runs on two homers -- including a grand slam from Cole Gillespie -- and Jansen was needed to smooth things over. He needed seven pitches to earn his fifth save. Jansen's season finishes with a 2.85 ERA. (Updated 09/29/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Jansen was given a few save situations down the stretch, but he's by no means the automatic closer for the Dodgers entering next season. That position has been in constant flux this season for the Dodgers. Jansen remains a viable RP option in deeper Rotisserie formats and NL-only leagues and his value should remain the same heading into next year. (Updated 09/29/2011).

Jeanmar Gomez, S

2011-09-27

Gomez finishes with a whimper: Indians SP Jeanmar Gomez did not have a strong finish to the season on Tuesday night in Detroit. Gomez was rocked by the Tigers as he allowed a two-run homer to Delmon Young and a solo shot to Wilson Betemit among eight earned runs allowed. Gomez took the loss to finish the season at 5-3 as he gave up eight runs on 10 hits and two walks over 4 2/3 innings. Gomez struck out five and his ERA finishes at 4.47 on the year. (Updated 09/27/2011)

Fantasy Analysis The 23-year-old Gomez had actually won five straight starts coming into his finale on Tuesday. Unfortunately, he finished with a dud, instead of a bang. The Indians certainly will not hold that against him as he was very solid down the stretch for the Tribe. Gomez is definitely going to be in the rotation conversation heading into next season, and Fantasy owners should have taken notice over his final six starts of this year. Gomez is quite young yet and could have plenty of sleeper appeal heading into 2012. (Updated 09/27/2011).

Cory Luebke, S

2011-09-20

Luebke picks sixth win : Padres SP Corey Luebke flirted with a no-hitter during Monday night's contest against the Rockies. Luebke took his no-hit bid into the sixth inning but Mark Ellis spoiled his plans with a two-run home run, which accounted for the Rockies only runs of the game. Luebke allowed just two runs on one hit over seven innings in the 8-2 victory. He retired 12 straight batters at one point and finished with nine strikeouts and three walks while improving to 6-9 on the season. (Updated 09/20/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Luebke had been winless over his last five outings but was able to snap that streak in a big way on Monday night. The left-hander has now allowed two runs in each of his last three outings and has racked up 26 strikeouts over that stretch. While the wins haven't been there the 26-year-old is clearly trying to earn a spot in the rotation next season. He is scheduled to make possibly his last start of the season on Sunday against the Dodgers. Owners in deeper mixed formats should continue to roll with Luebke heading into his next outing. (Updated 09/20/2011).

Johnny Cueto, S

2011-09-20

Cueto is done for 2011: Johnny Cueto will not make another start this season, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Cueto had his last start skipped due to a strained lat that he sustained in his most recent appearance on Sept. 14 against the Cubs. Cueto was hoping to make one final start this year, telling the Enquirer, "I wanted to throw. The doctor said no." He is expected to pitch in winter ball, throwing approximately 20 innings. (Updated 09/20/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Cueto was an extremely risky play for Fantasy Week 25 (Sept. 19-28), and now we know that he will not pitch at all for certain. Though his season has reached a disappointing end, it's been a breakout year for Cueto, as he has made dramatic improvements in his ground ball rate. Even though he'll miss all of the coming week, he could still contend for the NL ERA crown. Owners should look to target him as a No. 2 or 3 starter next season. (Updated 09/20/2011).

Gaby Sanchez, 1B

2011-09-15

Sanchez trying to keep average up: Florida 1B Gaby Sanchez went 1 for 3 with a walk during the Marlins' 3-1 loss to Philadelphia in the first game of a twinbill of Thursday. Sanchez's single in the eighth inning halted a two-game hitless streak and marked just his fifth hit -- all singles -- over his last nine outings overall. The slugger is now hitting just .233 in September. (Updated 09/15/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Sanchez's average has not dropped below .260 at any point this season, but he has been hovering around that mark since the middle of August. The 28-year-old has also seen a drop in his power production since then and recorded just five homers since the All-Star break. Sanchez is closing in on his career high in games played (151) and stands at 146. Consider him a worthwhile option in deeper Fantasy formats for now. (Updated 09/15/2011).

Juan Uribe, 3B

2011-09-07

Uribe undergoes hernia surgery: MLB.com reports that Dodgers SS Juan Uribe had his sports hernia surgery Wednesday, and he is scheduled to begin rehab in the next two weeks. He is expected to be out 6-8 weeks ultimately, so his season is effectively over. Uribe finished the season hitting .204, with four homers and 28 RBIs. (Updated 09/07/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Uribe is set to be ready for spring training in 2012, so Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his progress to that point. He won't be much help down the stretch in seasonal leagues, and he should be dropped in all formats for now. Uribe was a breakout option in 2010, but he failed to live up to the pressure with a new club, so he has much work to do to get back into out favor. We saw him as just a marginal option when healthy. (Updated 09/07/2011).

D.J. Carrasco, R

2011-07-02

Carrasco struggling since call-up: Mets RP D.J. Carrasco yielded a run and a hit in an inning of relief during New York's 5-1 loss to the Yankees on Friday night. Carrasco replaced Bobby Parnell in the ninth and gave up a run-scoring double to Alex Rodriguez after walking Curtis Granderson to begin the inning. (Updated 07/02/2011)

Fantasy Analysis Carrasco issued two walks during his 10th appearance since being recalled from Triple-A on June 11. He has now owns a poor 13:10 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 23 2/3 innings this year with a 5.70 ERA. With limited chances, Fantasy owners should ignore him in all formats. (Updated 07/02/2011).
